Hamlet Street
- extension and alterations to residence
Location: Bendigo, Victoria
Date: 2012
Award: COGB Heritage Award 2012 Additions to a Heritage Place
Builder: Bell Building
Photographer: Anthony Webster
“The design brief was to create additional internal and external spaces for a new kitchen, dining, family, laundry, master bedroom with en-suite and walk-in robes to the existing Queen Anne style dwelling; to be practical and livable without destroying the original fabric of the building or detracting from its unique and authentic value to the area.
The unique design allowed the extension to be skewed at 45 degrees to achieve full north orientation which delivers significant solar access to the new interior and exterior living area. The northern elevation was heavily double glazed to further increase solar gain within the building.
the result has been an extension that is as impressive as the existing house but in a clearly modern but adaptive and sympathetic way.”
